BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF MIDDLE TENNESSEE
Helping children overcome adversity in Middle Tennessee and realize a new and brighter future.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is an investor and volunteer supported organization serving children with a mentor.
Funding is used to conduct background checks on volunteers to ensure child safety; and provide ongoing support for children, families and volunteers to build and sustain long-lasting relationships. Big Brothers Big Sisters is proven to improve children’s odds for succeeding in school, behaving nonviolently, avoiding drugs and alcohol, and breaking negative cycles.
In 2010, we served over 2,812 Middle Tennessee children with a one-to-one mentor in their lives.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is currently serving children in nine counties including Davidson, Williamson, Wilson, Rutherford, Dickson, Cheatham, Hickman, Robertson and Sumner counties.

Big Brothers Big Sisters’ mentoring programs have proven results. Big Brothers Big Sisters’ mentoring programs have proven results. Of Middle Tennessee children receiving services in 2010, some of the surveys report:

85% showed improvement or maintained a positive score in educational expectations

73% showed improvement in their attitudes towards risk behaviors (ie alcohol and drug use, skipping school, hitting and cheating)

71% improved in their parental trust

Big Brothers Big Sisters’ site-based programs now serving Middle Tennessee children in 106 schools for 2010-2011 school year.

Recognized nationally as a Top Performer for Mentoring Children of Prisoners (out of 350 similar agencies) by the U.S. Dept of Health & Human Services for our Amachi program. One of our volunteer mentors was also named Outstanding Mentor of the Year by Health & Human Services.
